The elephants at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage are released into a large field during the day, where tourists can pay to have their photos taken with them. Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, a partnership between EARS Asia and Save Elephant Foundation in Thailand, rescued their first elephants in August 2016.
